Lecompte 5 Year Old Calvados Pays D’Auge

This elegant 5 year old vintage is prepared using apples and cider obtained exclusively from the Calvados Pays d’Auge Appellation. The aging process entails the production of new casks using a moderate degree of burning, with further maturation occurring in older casks (called russet barrels), which allows the fruitiness to slowly develop. The finishing process involves the homogenization of the batch in large cider or Pommeau tuns.

Lecompte’s 5 Year Old Calvados is light and fruity. The combination of apple and vanilla notes allows it to work well in cocktails and long drinks.

Calvados Lecompte 5 is prized for its unadulterated fruitiness, with a refined, discreet woodiness that complements the light, lively apple flavors. Before transferring to more mature barrels (known as ‘red barrels’) to help bring out its mellow flavors, this calvados pays d’auge spent several months in small casks of fresh oak, providing a delicate touch of vanilla.

Coppery walnut color with medium legs. There’s lots of baked apple fruit to the nose, along with cinnamon and nutmeg. Silky in texture and loaded with dry, baking apple fruit. There’s a solid backbone and nice structure. This is very food, entry level Calvados.

This Calvados Pays d’Auge spends several months in a small cask of fresh oak and is then transferred into mature barrels, bringing out the more subtle flavours of the wine. You’ll find the taste to be fruity, but also with subtle hint of woodiness.

Lecompte 5 years old Calvados is a combination of the fruity lightness of the apples with the subtle touch of wood from the small casks it was first aged in. The initial casks are made of moderately toasted French oak which give the spirit a delicate aroma of vanilla.
