Created as a tonic-digestive, Distilleria Caffo Vecchio Amaro del Capo has been produced by four successive generations of the Caffo family. It is made with 29 herbs, flowers, fruits, and roots, including bitter orange and sweet orange peel, licorice, mandarin, camomile, and juniper infused in alcohol. In Italy’s Calabrese region, where Vecchio Amaro del Capo originates, it is drunk ice cold in small glasses.

Today, Vecchio Amaro del capo is among the most widespread sold in Italy and boasts the fact it was the first bitter beverage to be proposed frozen in the slogans launched by the company way back in the seventies when consumption was mainly in the summer and it was only distributed in Calabria.

In 2010 Vecchio Amaro del capo was the only Italian bitter beverage to be awarded the gold medal in a worldwide competition in Brussels.

Appearance:

Clear, burnished coppery amber.

Aroma:

Pungent orange zest, floral lavender, orange blossom, and jasmine with honey, cloves, and cardamom.

Taste:

Bitter quinine with balancing syrupy sweetness. Orange zest, piney juniper, violet, strong clove, and black pepper.

Aftertaste:

Lavender, honey, black pepper, and clove.
