Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Old is a ‘minimum age’ rum as indicated by the number 12 displayed on the bottle. The rum is aged in Number One Select American Oak barrels. This medium-bodied rum is a blend of pot and column still rums aged between 12 and 18 years in ex-bourbon barrels with added toasted oak chips. Estate Extra was the personal creation of Wray & Nephew’s Chief Blender, Joy Spence.
Rare Blend is the new name for Appleton 12 Year Old Extra. Distilled in traditional copper pot stills, Rare Blend is a superb blend of rums, many of which have been aged for at least 12 years. Tasting Notes Of Appleton Estate 12 Year
Appearance:
Clear, deep coppery amber.
Aroma:
Pungent dried apricot, honey and freshly sawn oak with vanilla and linseed oil.
Taste:
Medium-bodied. A bed of dry spicy oak layered with gingerbread, honey, orange peel, almond, cinnamon, nutmeg, soy sauce and mocha coffee.
Aftertaste:
Dry and oaky with passion fruit, mocha coffee, orange zest and bitter tannins.
